Re-working Miss Murphy

Miss Murphy the painting had been hanging around for a year now. Last year she had two outings. The first was as an entrant in the Mantova Art Prize at the local Bellingen Agriculural Show.

A couple of months later, she had a six week stint at my first solo exhibition at the local pub. Although I was happy with her presence, I was becoming increasingly dissatisfied with her appearance. As the Melbourne Dog Lover’s Show is looming, and I need lots of decent dog paintings to display, I decided  to give this one a re-vamp.

As you can see from the before and after photos, the bones of the painting are pretty much the same. Let me tell you though, that every square millimetre of that 61 x 76cm canvas has been re-worked. Some more than others.

It may not be quite finished yet. That is the fate of a painting living in full view of its’ creator, but for today, I’m content to let it sit. Relax Miss Murphy. We’ve worked hard. have a well-earned rest.
